The Weird and Wonderful Bosses of Terraria part 4: Event Bosses
We've now been on Terraria for four days! Unfortunately we have one last day ahead of us tomorrow (hopefully) before we round off our rogues gallery of bosses! Today is all about the mini-bosses that crop up in events such as enemy invasions!
It seems timely to start with the Pumpkin Moon event seeing as this is the Festival of Horror after party/Terraria marathon so let's start with the first boss you'll meet in this event: Mourning Wood! This boss is a purple, dead looking tree, with a fire growing inside! he'll shoot spiky fireballs at you at a very fast rate, you better get your dodging shoes on! As with any of these bosses he can be somewhat of a challenge, especially when you're up against him for the first time! Mourning Wood is immune to most debuffs and will start walking around when it is ready to strike! In the later waves, about wave 6 to the final wave 15, another mini-boss will appear: Pumpking. Pumpking is a laser scythe wielding pumpkin! The carving of the pumpkin indicates how the Pumpking will attack so you'll want to keep an eye on his facial expressions, however, there can be more than one Pumpking on the screen at any given time! They're tough and there are a lot of them! Going back to the Megaman boss analogy we used last time its like a Megaman boss rush where all the foes are Woodman! To launch the event you must use a Pumpkin Moon Medallion which is only obtainable once Plantera has been defeated. The moon will have a face carved into it, like a Jack O'Lantern, or maybe the moon from Majora's Mask!
As we near Christmas time we have a Christmas themed invasion! The Frost Moon is an event activated by using a Naughty Present, once again only available after you have defeated Plantera! First up is Everscream who acts much like Mourning Wood but has one small difference, Everscream's projectile attacks cannot pass through blocks. That and Everscream is designed to look like a Christmas Tree and not a dead tree! In the later waves of the invasion you'll come across Father Christmas! Although this iteration of St Nick wants to drop a bomb down your chimney rather than leave you presents! Santa-NK1 is a tank-robot in the design of Father Christmas and is equipped with mini guns! He can also launch a rocket barage down on your head and if you survive him long enough to do some damage you'll see his beard rip off! What we're left with is the metal skeleton of ol' jolly St Nick trying to gun us down! The third and final boss you'll have to slay in the Frost Moon event is the Ice Queen, she is the fourth most powerful being in the whole game! She lies behind the Moon Lord, Duke Fishron and the Dungeon Guardian. If you take a hit from her you will get the Chilled debuff which will make your character slower and making the battle harder! If you do manage to kill her, however, she will drop end game weapons for each class of mage, ranger and warrior!
The Frost Legion and the Pirate Invasion (the earliest invasions of Hardmode) is as good at the game I've ever been, these two were quite easy compared to the Pumpkin Moon and the Frost Moon! However, the Pirate Invasion was recently given a new addition to the ranks of pirates trying to bring you down: the Flying Dutchman! The Flying Dutchman is a giant floating ship! After 65% of the Pirates have been slain and, much like the Pumpking, there can be multiple Flying Dutchmen at any given time! There are four canons that you must destroy before the Flying Dutchman is brought down! To activate the Pirate Invasion you must find a Pirate Map which is a rare drop from enemies in the ocean biome!
The final event boss comes from the recent event: Martian Madness. This event occurs once Golem has been defeated and your world is visisted by an alien probe. This probe has a random spawn rate and it will try to detect any players on the world/ server. If it finds a player it will turn from blue to red and, if it escapes, will summon a large army of martians! Heading the martian army is the Martian Saucer, literally a UFO! This saucer has a total of four turrest, muck like the Flying Dutchman, and it can fly through blocks! The Martian Saucer also has a large death ray which can only shoot directly down, this cannot be destroyed! The only way to destroy the Martian Saucer is to destroy the four turrets and then destroy the core! And with that we finish our tour of the PC bosses! Four parts filled with bosses and we've only covered PC! We still have mobile and console bosses left, next time, the final installment... I promise!
