The Weird and Wondeful Bosses of Terraria
Terraria is the sandbox game that we've name dropped a few times here on the Game Lounge but now it's finally time to give this game its time in the spotlight! Terraria is full of oddities in terms of enemies, NPCs, weapons and, of course, bosses!
We start our journey in Easymode, the mode you'll start any world in and today we'll take a look at bosses we can face in this mode! After you've painstakingly levelled trees to harvest the wood and built yourself a small community you're at risk of something very nasty attacking you in the night. The first boss, at least the first boss you're likely to meet and beat (although it wasn't my first boss slain) is the bane of the early game player: the Eye of Cthulu. The conditions for a random summon are that you have over 200HP, you have 3 or more NPCs, you have at least 10 defense and a boss hasn't already been killed in that world. This will give the Eye a 33.33% chance of spawning at night, each night. As the name suggests he is a giant floating eye, he can summon servants which are smaller floating eyes and he can also eat you as he has a mouth! He has a mouth! A giant floating eyeball with a mouth! Should yo go spelunking in the caverns around your humble abode you may find a chest with a Suscpicious Looking Eye in, you can use this to summon the Eye at night but you can also craft this item, this summon item is the cheapest to craft in the game, probably because he's the starter boss.
Moving on to the boss I first killed and we find the Eater of Worlds. This being is a giant worm who seems to be made of rotting flesh and lives in the Corruption of your world! This boss holds little challenge but he can be quite an obstacle for newcomers who happen to accidentally summon him, this can be done by either crafting/ finding Worm Food or smashing three Shadow Orbs. You can only blame yourself summoning him that way though as you are giving ample warning that he's coming for you! Alternatively your world could spawn with no Corruption, however, that doesn't mean your safe as your world will instead have the Crimson biome and this biome has its own boss: the Brain of Cthulu! The Brain of Cthulu is much like the Eye in that it has a mouth and its own servants named creepers, but not creepers as in Minecraft Creepers these creepers are eyeball like creatures. He can be summoned by finding/ crafting a Bloody Spine or smashing three Crimson Hearts. He also has a heart, in his mouth, in his brain! He's definitley an oddity!
Next up on your hitlist is Skeletron who you may find hididng in the form of an Old Man. Your world will have a dungeon to the right or left of your world spawn, outside said dungeon you will find an Old Man. He seems harmless enough but when you speak to him at night you will be given the option of freeing the Old Man from his curse! What curse could befall this Old Man? He turns into a giant skull with two giant skeletal arms! He can be tough to beat but beating him gives you access to the dungeon, the next stop on your adventure! Trying to access the dungeon without killing Skeletron will summon the Dungeon Guardian who will kill you in one shot!
Before we journey to hell itself for the final battle of Easymode there is two more bosses to face! King Slime is a boss who could appear at any given moment! Each slime you see, and you'll see a lot of them, have the chance of spawning as King Slime. Chances increase as you reach the outer 1/3rd of the world and if you are near a Water Candle. He will spawn at the end of the Slime Rain event and he can be summoned by creating a Slime Crown. The Slime Crown is one of the most expensive boss summoning items in the game! Inside his slimy form you can see a ninja, slaying King Slime will give you one of the three costume pieces for the ninja costume, and a truckload of slime! The other boss is Queen Bee who coan be found in a Hive in the Underground Jungle. This boss is surrounded by regenerative honey meaning the boss fight isn't too difficult. You must smash the Queen Bee's offspring in the Hive to summon the boss or you can create the Abeemination to summon her in the Jungle biome! The hardest part of this boss fight is survivng in the Underground Jungle long enough to find the Hive!
The final stop in Easymode is the Underworld, quite literally hell! You must find a Guide Voodoo Doll and drop it into lava, killing the guide and summoning the Wall of Flesh! You get the Guide Voodoo Doll by slaying the rare mob Voodoo Demon. The Wall of Flesh provides a huge challenge for players and can be quite daunting. Building world long bridges is probably your best bet for beating this thing, but not too high as you will need to attack his eyes and mouth! Beating this boss will activate Hardmode in your world, your world will transform into one filled with new horrors! The Hallow and Corruption will quickly spread through your world and you will now be faced by a whole host of bosses all out for your blood! More on that next time...
