Weird Bosses: Master Core

Nintendo have recently developed a habit for hard end game bosses. Splatoon is an example where the difficulty spike for the final boss is huge! It forces you to use all you have learned, put it all together and also have lightening fast reflexes! Super Smash Bros. has always had fair end game bosses but that's about to change!

In Super Smash Bros. on the N64 we were introduced to Master Hand, this boss has appeared in each installment in the franchise since! The boss is, well, a giant hand. It appears to have some form of influence of the world around it using magical powers to squash you like bugs! Turning to Super Smash Bros. Melee on the GameCube we find Crazy Hand. This being acts very similar to Master Hand but is a little bit more unpredictable and his move sets seem to focus on destruction! He's also appeared in every installment since. These are the two important bosses for this post but we might as well look to Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Wii. Here we find the Subspace and Tabuu who put Master Hand in chains and is now out to destroy our favourite Nintendo heroes! Tabuu never appeared again in the series unlike Master and Crazy Hand. Moving on we find ourselves on the 3DS and WiiU for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for WiiU and the topic of this post: Master Core!

Tackling Classic mode on an intensity lower than 5.0 will allow you to fight Master Hand and Crazy Hand. Trying it on a higher intensity will have much the same result, at first. When Master Hand and Crazy Hand lose 100 Hp (they have a shared life bar) Crazy Hand will dissolve into black flames and Master Hand will rip apart violently and become Master Core! Master Core, at the highest intensity, is a true challenge! He will cause endless frustration as you try for the 50th time to complete Classic mode on intensity 9.0 with Olimar! He has a lot of different forms, usually starting with Giant Master Core. he can lift the stage in this form, try to blow you off the stage, slash through shields and it can create a lot of electric balls at once! This form is hard! You have to attack his head and once you do enough damage he will transform into Beast Master Core!

Beast Master Core can jump into the background and attempt to bite you from behind! He can jump on one side of the stage to tilt it. You'll want to attack him from behind to do the most damage. Once you've done enough damage Master Core will become Master Sabres, an amalgamation of swords! He can attack with 5 swords at once, and is very hard to hit! He deals an incredible amount of damage in this stage and can very easily kill you! You'll have racked up a huge amount of damage by this point! Next you'll meet Master Shadow, in this form he is a duplicate of you! He has the same move set as you! Any special trait your character has Master Core will now also possess. This form's probably one of the easiest and doing enough damage to this form will create the Master Fortress!

Master Fortress is exclusive to the WiiU and thankfully you're given a heart canister before going in so you have full health once again! This form of Master Core is an entire stage on its own which holds various enemies you'll find in things like Smash Run on the 3DS version but in the form of Master Core. The stage comes in two waves and each waves contains two hearts. Destroy the hearts and the path to the next one is opened up, easy right? Wave one has no traps but wave 2 is filled with pools of acid. If your damage is above 100% you'll be instantly KO'd but below that and you'll get 25% damage and considerable knockback! Destroying the four hearts will reveal Master Core's final phase: Master Core!

This final form sees you fight the Smash Ball! The music will stop and you'll have about 45 seconds to knock the ball off the edge! It seems quite sad really, Master Core puts up such a viscous fight until this point and here he just lets you finish him. Getting to this point will require all your skill and lightening reflexes... just like Splatoon! The greatest challenge of Master Core, however, is survivng Classic mode on intensity 9.0 without losing any stock! That's near to impossible!
