Aliens in Video Games

Aliens have fascinated the human race for a very long time. Do they exist? Did they help build Stonehenge? While these questions are being hotly debated our extra terrestrial friends have been cropping up all over video games past from the Atari 2600 to the Xbox One!

Thinking of aliens makes me think of the Xenomorph, the titular aliens from the Alien franchise. Xenomorphs appear in a huge number of games starting in 1985 with "Alien" on the Commodore 64. They then featured heavily in games like Contra and found themselves recently being thrown into Alien: Isolation. Aliens and their movie rivals the Predators also spawned their own series of games! Metroid draws heavy inspiration from the series and they can be found in games like Popeye 3 in the arcades! At Halloween in Terraria they can be found as a costume too!

Other notable aliens include the Pikmin. These beings work for the fearless Captain Olimar after he crash lands on their planet. They later begin to help other humans in the Pikmin games and prove to be fearless fighters in the Super Smash Bros. series! With space games, however, you're bound to run into aliens, take Ratchet & Clank as an example or Mass Effect! What about non-space games? In Animal Crossing if you're by your TV at 3am you will see an alien make a speech before disappearing again. What did he want? Who knows! Grand Theft Auto V is famous for the three UFOs after you reach 100% completion as well as the underwater UFO and the frozen alien in the prologue. One of the secret endings in Silent Hill has you killed by a group of aliens!

Taking a trip to world of Fallout we can find aliens sprinkled throughout the series! Collin McRae Rally sees you abducted by a UFO if you are driving along a dead end at night. Your cars electronics will shut down and you will be abducted! About 10 minutes then gets added to your lap time too. Want a bit of gun slinging action? Head over to the Wild West game Outlaws and head to Slim's Hideout, head over to the outhouse and throw a stick of dynamite into it. You'll want to shoot the dynamite but maybe step back first! This well then create a hole big enough for you to crawl through and eventually you'll find an Alien hideout! You'll find a window and see a brief glimpse of aliens with a cow before the door is shut on you.

The Sims allows you to be an alien, although this is more so in the later titles. In the Sims 2 your Sim could be abducted by an alien and be impregnated with baby aliens. A recent update to Terraria brought alien invasions as well as the Moon Lord boss and luna events! With all these games we can't forget E.T. on the Atari 2600! The game that is blamed for the North American video game crash of 1983 and the game we also tried to defend! However E.T. also appeared on the Gamecube ina game where you explore Universal Theme Park in Orlando, good luck trying to not fall off your bike though! We've barely begun to scratch the surface of aliens in video games but all these aliens do show us that no, we are not alone!
