Weird Bosses: Bob the Killer Goldfish
Bosses are supposed to test the skills you've learnt throughout the game and provide the player with a challenge. However, some bosses are just a bit weird, they sometimes provide a good challenge and sometimes are just odd. For our first dive into these bosses let's look to Earthworm Jim, a series known for being weird for the sake of being weird and his main villian: Bob the Killer Goldfish!
Bob is a small Goldfish from the oceanic planet Planeta De Agua and is the only fish born with intelligence. After assuming control of the planet he discovers the only land mass which turns out to be the home of a group of muscle-bound cats. Bob convinces these cats to serve him and in exchange he would make a giant aqua dome so that the cats could live on the planet and not get wet. They agree and numbers the cats 1-7 and chooses #4 to be his personal henchman who must carry Bob in his bowl wherever he needs to go. Bob was convinced that fish were the highest life form and so decided to try and take over the universe, however, he recognised that he would be unable to do this until he got arms and legs. Earthworm Jim arrives on Bob's planet whilst pursuing another enemy Psy-Crow. Bob decides that he must have Jim's suit and sends his henchmen after him. Earthworm Jim then battles his way through the aqua dome and finds Bob. What epic battle will we see here? Earthworm Jim pushes Bob's bowl off of the table and leaves him splashing around on the floor, oh, ok then.
Thought that was the end of Bob? This time he's back with a new plan to rule the universe as he plans to help Psy-Crow marry Princess What's-Her-Name (her actual name). But Earthworm Jim is back for a battle even more intense last time: Earhworm Jim swallows Bob! Thought that was the end of Bob's epic legacy? Whilst venturing around the universe Earthworm Jim is knocked into a coma by a cow and Bob is free to take over his mind and enter his fantasies as he turns Jim's Wild-West heroes into old grannies, the fiend! Jim fights back in his dream state and expels Bob and, somehow #4, from his mind. Well, that's where the games end Bob's story and in his cartoon appearances it's much the same schemes. Bob, the villanous scourge of the ocean is definitely one strange boss!
