BEN Drowned the final chapter
BEN has been much more powerful than I've told you so far, he has a much more real presence in Alex Hall's life. But before we get there let's jump into the game one last time, one last trip into pure chaos and find a way to stop BEN. But can we?
Alex delved into the game one last time and the game began to get much more personal. It began to speak about BEN! Alex makes his way through a forest and meets Skull Kid who tells Link he wants to have fun. The screen goes crazy as Link begins to stumble around, random cutscenes begin to play and the Happy Mask Salesman keeps appearing. Once able to Alex plays the Elegy of Emptiness, the song which causes the statue to spawn but instead the screen fades to black and text appears on the bottom of the screen: "You shouldn't have done that". Wherever Alex goes, whoever he speaks to the text is the same, never changing. Even when he recieves a new item the game still says "You shouldn't have done that". The game teleports Alex to a large tree and more text appears reading "BEN is getting lonely".
Alex ran to the tree and the statue appeared like all the previous times, it drew closer to Alex and let out a scream. The game faded one last time and told Alex that he was given one last chance to make everything right. The text which appears to signal the final day appeared telling Alex he had 24 hours until the moon destroyed Termina. The game took him back to the main menu where two files faced Alex. "BEN" and "Link", Alex's original file, the file that began it all. He had one last chance to go back before it went wrong, one final chance to make everything right. Alex switched off the game.
That's the last Alex played the game but BEN hasn't finished yet and still haunts Alex beyond the game through haunted Cleverbot conversations (here's where the story gets a little bit ridiculous if it hasn't already that is). Hold on, how did BEN go from the Majora's Mask cartridge to the internet I hear you cry. I've been neglecting to tell you that at the point where Alex first meets the statue in the ghostly Clock Town he began to record his experiences and uploaded the evidence to YouTube. This gave BEN a path from the cartridge to the console to Alex's computer giving BEN access to the entire internet. And what did BEN do with all of this new found power? He taunted Alex on Cleverbot (yeah, that's what he did. The whole internet and all he does is taunt some guy!). It's here that BEN reveals that he is the statue, Alex asks him to leave him alone but BEN tells Alex he wants to see Alex suffer. Ben, the lost soul of a child or demon from the seventh layer of hell?
But what of Alex in all this, we heard that in Clock Town that the reversed and looped Song of Healing was wearing on his mental state and his dreams, or rather nightmares, was causing him sleep deprivation. His roommate had to move out of the dorm, Alex never left his room and only saw his roommate when he walked in needing something. Alex shut himself off from the world, isolating himself from friends and family. He dropped out of college the morning after his final trip into the game and went home, unable to face it anymore. He wanted to escape BEN. But what of BEN? He's still lurking in the internet right? Well, sort of. Alex stated, after time at home and away from the game, taht by sharing his story with the world he could stop his torment, trap BEN in the videos on the internet, his gateway to the rest of the world. The videos were BEN's bridge to the world but also served as his prison. Alex also stated that downloading his videos would bring BEN back and his torment would be for nothing. Well, until that happens we can enjoy this dark tale. And when BEN is our supreme overlord and has plunged the world into eternal chaos and damnation we can look back at where it all began with a college sophmore finding a abttered old game at an Old Man's garage sale.
