BEN Drowned part 6
The screen had faded and Alex was still reading the same words: "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?". The message that the Happy Mask Salesman says to the player at the start of the game, but now the words seemed very eerie to Alex as he sat there. The screen eventually returned and Alex was standing in Termina Fields.
Link was no longer a Deku Scrub and was now human again. There was no enemies that Alex could say and a twisted, almost demonic version of the Happy Mask Salesman was playing. Alex decided to try and make his way towards Woodfall when three figures to the side: Epona (the horse), the Happy Mask Salesman and Skull Kid. As Alex drew closer he noticed one other figure among them: the statue or more accurately the Elegy of Emptiness. Plucking up all the courage he could Alex moved closer to the figures, he noticed that Skull Kid and Epona were playing an animation on loop and the statue, as always, just stood there. It was the Happy Mask Salesman that terrified Alex...
As Alex moved around the almost motionless figures (due to their animation loops) he noticed that the Happy Mask Salesman was also motionless but his eyes constantly followed Link. Alex was reminded of Skull Kid on the top of Clock Town Tower and began to play the Ocarina. He played both the Happy Mask Salesman's song and the Song of Healing, the song that played backwards on loop in the ghostly Clock Town. As Alex played the song an ear splitting scream came from his TV and the sky began to flash. The Happy Mask Salesman's music sped up. Link exploded in flames and died once again. On the death screen all the figures standing around Link stared at his dead body and watched it burn. "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?".
Alex was thrown into a cut-scene of Link transforming into a Zora (an aquatic humanoid) and Alex finds himself in the Great Temple Bay. Alex moved across the beach and found Epona once again. Only this time she was pointing to something and neighing at Link. As a Zora Alex dived into the Great Bay where Epona had pointed to and saw a shape at the bottom of the ocean, it was the statue! Alex moved closer to the statue and as he did he began to choke, almost as if he was drowning. As a Zora this is impossible as they can breathe underwater. Alex died and was returned to the menu.
Alex looked at the files again and chose the file named BEN once more. The statue appeared at the Laundry Pool in the Day 4 ghost Clock Town where it first appeared. This confirmed all of Alex's suspicions, Ben was dead, he drowned like Link did as he approached the statue underwater. That's essentially it. This is where the saga ends (except for a small part) but I hear you ask what about all of those unanswered questions? Why did Alex feel so personally threatened? Once he turned off the game he also turned off the horror, right? And what happened to Alex afterwards? All of this and more next time in the grand finale!
