BEN Drowned part 4

Alex was afraid. The statue, he felt, threatened him in the real world as he gave up fleeing and allowed the statue to kill him. He hoped this would end the nightmare but the game has other ideas for Alex as he is teleported away into an underground tunnel. The reversed Song of Healing began to play again and Alex was alone.

This rest was short lived however, as the staue warped behind him, once again the statue pursued a fleeing Alex as he fled from the tunnel to reappear in South Clock Town (we're still in Clock Town!?). The screen faded and the text "Dawn of a New Day" appeared with the subtext "llllllll". Alex appeared on top of Clock Tower with Skull Kid hovering above him, staring at Alex. The reversed Song of Healing finally stopped and was replaced with the reversed Stone Temple Tower theme. Scared for his life and personal safety Alex equiped his bow and shot Skull Kid three times only to be greeted with the text "That won't do you any good. Hee, hee". Link was lifted into the ear and burst into flames with a realistic sounding scream which instantly killed him.

The strange part of all of this (despite the entirety of what's going on) is that Skull Kid has no moves or attacksand no one in the game can do this. Alex watched Skull Kid stare and laugh at Link's burning body and the screen faded to black. Alex respawned and this time decided to charge at Skull Kid and attack him, instead he ended up lifting into the sky and once more bursting into flames. As the death screen came up the reversed Song of Healing played once again. Alex respawned again but this time there was no sound playing only an eerie silence. That's when Alex remembered what should be the first encounter with Skull Kid where you play the Song of Time on the Ocarina to travel back in time or summon giants. Alex played the Song of Time and as he reached the final note of the song he burst into flames once again.

Alex's N64 began to make lots of noise as if processing a lot of things at once until eventually Alex respawned one final time, although, this time it was different. Link was lying on the ground, dead, with Skull Kid hovering over him. Alex tried every button but nothing happened, he was stuck. The screen faded with the message: "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?". The screen faded back to the title screen. The first thing Alex noticed was that his file called "Link" had been deleted and was now replaced with the file "YOUR TURN". "YOUR TURN" took Alex back to where he was previously, a dead Link with Skull Kid hovering over his body. This time, however, Skull Kid's laugh was on loop.

Alex hit the reset button and when the game loaded up there was a new save file called BEN. BEN's file was excactly the same as it had been before Alex had originally deleted it. Alex turned off the game and, with a friend, tried to find the Old Man who sold him the game. There was no answer at his house and outside of it was a "For Sale" sign. So what of the Old Man? How does he link to all of this? Who was BEN? What else does the game have in store for Alex? Find out next time!
